Increase the laptop volume. Boosting the sound on a computer Increasing the volume on a Windows 7 computer

Content

Sometimes laptop users encounter a problem where there is no sound. This problem can be solved in several ways: using a key combination, through the speaker settings, or using special software.

How to add sound on a laptop using the keyboard

The most obvious and easiest way to enhance sound on a laptop is to use the keyboard functionality. More about it:

  1. Find two buttons on the keyboard that are responsible for increasing and decreasing the volume. They may be located in the far upper left corner or closer to the right side - the location depends on the device model. (Fig. 1)
  2. Also find the Fn button on your keyboard. In most models it is located in the lower left corner next to the Ctrl button. (Fig. 2)
  3. To increase or decrease the volume, hold Fn and press one of the two top buttons. In this case, an indicator with sound parameters will be displayed on the screen. (Fig. 3)

How to increase the volume of speakers on a laptop

Another way to increase the sound on a laptop if the above option does not work is to use the speaker settings. The type and presence of an equalizer depends on the sound card of the personal computer, but the principle of operation is largely similar. Adjusting the volume using Realtek as an example:

  • Open the control panel through the Start menu or through the Windows 10 search form. (Fig. 4)
Rice. 4
  • Select Hardware and Sound, then go to Sound. (Fig. 5)
Rice. 5
  • Double-click (or right-click) on the speakers and open their properties. (Fig. 6)
Rice. 6
  • Go to the “Improvements” tab and select “Equalizer” from the entire list by checking the box. (Fig. 7)
Rice. 7
  • Next, open the settings window (by clicking next to “Settings”). (Fig. 8)
Rice. 8
  • In the window that opens, raise all the sliders up to the stop. In this case, the volume will increase, but the quality may drop significantly: grinding, wheezing and sounds unpleasant to the ear will appear. (Fig. 9)
Rice. 9
  • Alternatively, in the speaker settings, you can check the boxes next to the items “Equalizer”, “Virtual sound”, “Loudness”. This may increase the volume. (Fig. 10)
Rice. 10
  • Alternatively, go to Speaker Enhancements and check the box next to Loudness, leaving the rest blank. At the top, check “Disable all sound effects.” Click "Apply". (Fig. 11).

How to boost sound on a Windows 10 laptop

Many laptops today have Windows 10 installed, which has a function for increasing the sound quality of speakers or headphones - “Sound Leveling Options”. Detailed instructions:

  • On the work panel next to the clock, find the tray icon. Right-click on it and select “Open Sound Settings.” (Fig. 12)
Rice. 12
  • Scroll down the opened window to select “Sound Control Panel.” (Fig. 13)
Rice. 13
  • Select the device through which the sound will be output – in this case, “Speakers”. (Fig. 14)
Rice. 14
  • Select "Properties" and go to the "Advanced Features" tab. Check the box next to Volume Equalization, click Apply and OK. (Fig. 15)
Rice. 15

If you tried to run the file on a laptop with Windows 10, but the player did not play it, then it simply cannot understand this format. In this case, install audio-video codecs, which are special programs for signal conversion. Installing them will help correct the volume setting:

  • Download the installation package onto your laptop via the Internet. For example, this could be the K-Lite Codec Pack, which can be found on the program's official website. Once the download is complete, run the installation file, first closing all programs. (Fig. 16)
Rice. 16
  • Select the appropriate mode (Normal, Advanced, etc.) and install codecs. (Fig. 17)

Programs to increase sound on a laptop

You can also solve the problem of raising the volume on a laptop using special programs. Popular options:

  • A plugin program that significantly improves the quality of sound playback in players and other applications. The control panel contains a block with settings for the type of content and template used, the configuration of the signal processor and speakers, and the general playback control. In the "Content" drop-down list, you can select the type of content to play: voice (speech), movies, games or music. The choice of template that will be used to customize the sound depends on this. The program is shareware. (Fig. 18)
Rice. 18
  • A program that can help increase the volume of audio or video files on a laptop up to 1000%, i.e. ten times. It works with most popular audio and video formats. This utility will also be useful if the sound is too loud and you decide to reduce it a little. A special feature is its ease of use, because all you need is to select a file and use the buttons to increase the volume to the desired percentage. (Fig. 19)
Rice. 19
  • A very simple utility from Letasoft that can increase the volume in any OS on a laptop up to 500%, i.e. five times the normal sound level. After installation, an additional speaker will appear in the tray; clicking on it opens the volume gain slider. For convenience, the program provides the ability to control hot keys. You can customize them yourself in your own way. The program is very easy to manage, but keep in mind that its status is shareware. After 14 days of operation, restrictions will appear. You will have to buy it or reinstall it. (Fig. 20)
Rice. 20
  • Hear. A small program for increasing the volume that will improve the quality of the reproduced sound of music and movies, as well as any application. Features include 3D sound, an advanced equalizer, the ability to control the level of the central audio channel, a speaker correction function and the presence of a virtual subwoofer. The latter will replace the real device due to special settings that significantly increase the laptop's bass. The interface and manual are in English only. This software does not belong to the free category. (Fig. 21)

The disadvantages of some computer speaker systems - inexpressive bass, lack of mids, weak dynamic range - do not always allow you to comfortably listen to your favorite tracks. The overall volume of such speakers also leaves much to be desired. In this article, we will discuss options for amplifying sound on a PC or laptop.

There are several ways to amplify the sound signal on a computer, and they all involve using the capabilities of special software or the operating system itself. The programs allow you to increase the overall level of the output signal and are divided into independent products and drivers included with sound cards. As for Windows tools, their capabilities are very limited, but in certain conditions they also help.

Method 1: Gain on the fly

There are quite a lot of programs on the global network designed to help you adjust the sound level in speaker systems or headphones. There are both very simple ones, with a couple of sliders, and entire sound combines. Let's look at two examples - Hear and Sound Booster.

This program is a multifunctional tool for working with sound. It allows you to configure various special effects and improve the signal. We are only interested in opportunities to increase the level. The desired slider is located on the equalizer tab and is called "Preamp(dB)". To achieve the desired result, you must pull it to the right.

Sound Booster

This is a very simple software with a couple of functions - the ability to amplify sound up to 5 times and three operating modes. The interface is a regular slider, called up by clicking on the icon in the system tray.

The sound volume is adjusted in the same way as with the standard Windows tool, the only difference being that the lower value is 100% and the upper is 500%.

Drivers

In this case, by drivers we mean software supplied by sound card manufacturers. Not all, but many of these programs are able to increase the signal level. For example, software from Creative allows you to do this with a slider in the equalizer settings window.

Players

Some multimedia players allow you to turn up the volume above 100%. For example, such a function is available in VLC Media Player.

Method 2: Boost the sound level in files

Unlike the previous method, where we increased the volume in the PC speakers, the point of this one is to “twist” the track level directly in the source multimedia file. This is also done using special software. For example, let's take Audacity and Adobe Audition.

Audacity

This free program has many functions for processing audio tracks. She also has the tool we need in her arsenal.

Thus, we raised the amplitude of the sound signal in the track, thereby making the sound louder.

Adobe Audition

Audition is a powerful software for audio editing and composition creation. With its help, you can perform the most complex manipulations with the signal - apply filters, remove noise and other “extra” components, use the built-in stereo mixer. Using this program for our purposes comes down to very simple steps.

The result will be similar to the previous option.

Method 3: Operating System Tools

Before you try to amplify quiet sound using third-party software, you need to make sure that the sound level in the system settings is set to maximum. You can find out by clicking LMB on the speaker icon in the notification area. If the slider is in the highest position, then the level is maximum, otherwise it needs to be pulled up.

Applications that can play audio - browsers or players - also have their own volume settings. The mixer responsible for this is opened using a context menu called by right-clicking on the same speaker icon.

Please note that some controls may be in the middle position, which may not allow you to play music or movies at maximum level.

Method 4: Replacing the speaker system

Amplification of the sound level using software does not always contribute to high-quality playback. While the software is running, various interference, distortion and delays may be observed when outputting the signal to the speakers. If, after volume, the main criterion for you is quality, then you should think about purchasing new speakers or headphones.

Conclusion

Programs designed to increase the sound power on a computer help to significantly eliminate the shortcomings of speaker systems. If you need high sound quality, then you can’t do without new speakers and (or) a sound card.

Hello.

A quick question: why does a computer have no sound?

So I don’t know: neither play, nor watch a movie, let alone music... In addition to the lack of sound, the other side of the problem is often encountered - there is sound, but it’s hard to hear, it’s weak.

There are several dozen programs to solve this problem, but not all of them provide real result. I wanted to focus on those that helped me in this article...

Note: The article is written based on the experience of the author. Relevant for popular Windows operating systems (7, 8, 10).

If there is NO sound at all, check out this one:

By universal amplifiers, I mean programs that you install, configure once, and they work in the system, increasing the sound in any other application. Those. programs that enhance sound online and do not require you to edit every music file or movie to change the volume...

Sound Booster

One of the most convenient and simple programs that will easily and quickly enhance sound. Moreover, you don’t have to spend a lot of time fiddling around in the settings and digging around, looking for the right checkbox; all you need to do is check the autostart box (so that the program boots with Windows) and move the volume slider up.

By the way, Sound Booster can increase the volume 5 times (500%)! The program amplifies the sound in almost all applications in Windows: web browsers, Skype, MSN, Live, ICQ, video and audio players, etc. A very important difference from other software of this kind is that Sound Booster does not distort the sound when the volume is increased (the developers managed to achieve this using unique filters).

The program supports the Russian language, there is a hotkey setting: you can set which keys to press to turn on the volume boost and which keys to press to turn it off. In general, very convenient!

Disadvantages of the program: paid. By the way, the second disadvantage is connected with this: the trial period is very short - two weeks...

Hear

A program like Hear (with so many settings for changing and improving the sound) - look no further! The number of filters, available switches, options and settings is simply amazing; there are so many of them that you can easily spend the whole evening with them, listening and changing the sound quality of your speakers/headphones.

Main modules:

  • 3D Sound - a module for giving 3D surround sound to the sound (by the way, this is quite popular lately). The main task of this option is to watch movies. When you watch a movie with this option turned on, it will seem to you that the sound is surrounding you, coming from behind, from the right, and from the left... In general, it’s worth a try;
  • Equalizer - a similar module is found in almost every media player. Thanks to it, you will gain control over all sound frequencies: you can raise the bass, for example...;
  • Speaker Correction- a module for controlling the resonance of the speakers, thanks to this you can slightly increase the volume of the reproduced sound;
  • Virtual subwoofer- if you do not have a subwoofer, then the program can try to replace it!;
  • Atmosphere - this option allows you to make you think that you are, for example, in a large hall or in a forest. Those. The program gives the sound the desired sound effect.
  • Fidelity control is a module aimed at listening to music. Allows you to somewhat restore the frequency and intensity of the sound, which is lost during the recording of the track.

Cons: the program is paid (but not expensive :)).

SRS Audio SandBox

Developer: http://www.srslabs.com/

A very, very interesting sound processing program. What is also important is that it is not designed for professionals who can select and configure the ones they need from hundreds of frequencies, but for the most ordinary “average” user.

The program has several modules:

  • 3D balance;
  • 3D space;
  • volume;
  • optimization;
  • speaker frequency;
  • sound clarity (see screenshot below).

By adjusting each of these functions in turn, you can achieve clear and high-quality sound. By the way, please note that the program has several operating modes: gaming (recommended for games); music mode (when listening to audio tracks), and movie mode (turned on when playing a movie in some player).

In addition, to more accurately adjust the sound, be sure to select the type of your audio device: regular speakers (speakers), laptop speakers, or headphones. In general, the program is quite interesting, I recommend you check it out!

Audio file amplifiers: MP3, Wav, etc. (audio editors)

These programs will be useful to you if you are faced with music tracks, when played, the sound becomes very weak (sometimes, it is barely audible). In this case, increasing the sound in all applications (using the software from the first part of this article) makes no sense! It is much easier to use special audio editors that can enhance the sound of a specific music track (or an entire album) and correct this misunderstanding...

Audio Amplifier

An excellent utility in which you can quickly and easily increase the volume of an audio or video file. By the way, what’s interesting is that the program can not only increase the volume, but also lower it (in cases where the desired file sounds very loud)! The maximum sound amplification level is 1000% (i.e. the sound can be amplified 10 times)!

The program interface is designed in a minimalist style (which is popular today). To change the sound level in a file: just click the "Load file" button, then move the slider to the desired direction (for example, increase the volume by 100%) and save the result. It's simple!

The only problem: You cannot hear in advance how the volume of the file you are editing will change. It is also worth noting that by increasing the volume of the “main” sound, the noise also increases. Therefore, I personally do not recommend immediately turning the volume slider to maximum; the volume level can increase significantly, even if you increase it only by 100%...

Audacity/Logo

A simple, lightweight, feature-rich audio editor.

Using the program you can:

  • - cut audio files;
  • - move individual pieces of the “cut” track;
  • - apply various filters to improve sound quality;
  • - apply volume fade effects;
  • - there are filters to remove noise;
  • - equalizer for adjusting frequencies;
  • - normalization of audio tracks, etc.

There is support for hotkeys. Dozens of plugins have been written for the program. Supports working with audio in: 16-, 24- and 32-bit.

By the way, when you turn up the volume in Audio Amplifier(for example) - then you can remove the noise that appears, just in Audacity. Those. This program complements the first one, which I gave just above.

mp3DirectCut

Official site: http://mpesch3.de1.cc/ (you can download from)

Compact audio file editor (MP3). Its main direction: cut and copy parts of MP3 tracks without compression into PCM format.

For the purposes of this article, this editor is interesting because it allows you to remove silence from files and normalize sound. The program works in all versions of Windows (XP, 7, 8, 10), full support for the Russian language is implemented.

A screenshot of the main window is shown below.

Programs that improve sound quality

These programs “intersect” in their capabilities with the “universal amplifiers” that I included in the first part of this article. Their main direction is to make the sound better, give it the desired “atmosphere,” and change its frequency. As a rule, these settings are rather sparsely presented in the drivers that go to the sound card (I’d better keep silent about the sound settings in Windows...).

DFX Audio Enhancer

FX sound / Logo

One of the best programs to improve sound quality in Windows! It is a kind of plugin that is integrated into all popular applications, for example: WinAmp, Aimp, Windows Media Player, Skype, etc.

The program has a ton of options; I’ll list the most basic modules:

  • Harmonic Fidelity Restoration - the program will compensate for high frequencies, which are almost always cut off during the file encoding process;
  • Ambience Processing - a kind of surround effect that makes the sound “deeper”;
  • 3D Surround Processing - the option is similar to the previous one, but it works “slightly” differently, the effect is based on three-dimensional sound (a fashionable word nowadays :), to understand the difference you need to test it once!);
  • Dynamic Gain Boosting - increasing the intensity of the audio track. In general, this is an interesting option that adds some degree of dynamism;
  • HyperBass Boost - compensation of low frequencies, replenishment of deep bass;
  • Headphones Output Optimization- a super option for those who listen to sound on headphones. The sound will be optimized to create the most comfortable and realistic sound in your headphones...

DFX Audio Enhancer - fashionable design

Razer Surround

This program is aimed at working with stereo headphones (if you do not use headphones, then you will not be interested in it).

Razer Surround developers have created “revolutionary” sound processing algorithms that are capable of creating a surround sound effect in almost any stereo headphones. The volumetric space will be created through a series of calibrations and various sound listening tests and fine tuning.

Some modules and features:

  • Voice level - the volume level of your opponent/interlocutor;
  • Voice clarity - sound adjustment aimed at clearing various distortions and interference;
  • Sound normalization - reducing the volume spread (fine option);
  • Bass boost - increase/decrease bass;
  • There is a database of ready-made settings (11 created profiles);
  • Supports most stereo headphones, stereo headsets;
  • Support Windows 7, 8, 10 (32/64 bits).

VLC player - increase volume up to 125%

Some audio and video file players can automatically increase the volume of the playing file, higher than 100%! Those. If the standard Windows Media Player (which is available in “any” Windows) allows you to increase the volume only up to 100%, then for example the VLC player up to 125% - i.e. much louder without any plugins or add-ons!

VLC

The main advantage of this player is its ability to accurately reproduce network broadcasts. Moreover, add to this that the player is free and can play all other popular formats (AVI, MP4, Divx, MKV, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, H.264, MKV, WebM, WMV, MP3, etc.) , also supports DVD, Audio CD, VCD, etc..

This concludes the article. By the way, if you know players that can slightly increase the volume of played media files, write a couple of lines in the reviews.

I think I’m not lying if I say that most users face a similar problem! Moreover, sometimes solving it is far from so simple: you have to install several versions of drivers, check the speakers (headphones) for functionality, and make the appropriate settings for Windows 7, 8, 10.

In this article, I will focus on the most popular reasons why the sound on a computer may be quiet.

Poor contact connectors, not working headphones/speakers

Quite a common reason. This usually happens with “old” PC (laptop) sound cards, when various sound devices have already been inserted/removed into their connectors hundreds of times. Because of this, the contact becomes poor and as a result you observe a quiet sound...

I had exactly the same problem on my home computer: the contact would come off - the sound would become very quiet, I had to get up, go to the system unit and straighten the wire coming from the speakers. I solved the problem quickly, but “clumsily” - I simply taped the wire from the speakers to the computer desk with tape so that it would not dangle or come off.

By the way, many headphones have an additional volume control - pay attention to it too! In any case, if you have a similar problem, first of all, I recommend starting by checking the inputs and outputs, wires, and the functionality of the headphones and speakers (to do this, you can connect them to another PC/laptop and check their volume there).

Are the drivers normal, do they need an update? Are there any conflicts or errors?

About half of software problems with a computer are related to drivers:

Errors from driver developers (usually they are fixed in newer versions, which is why it is important to check for updates);

Incorrect driver versions selected for this Windows OS;

Driver conflicts (most often this happens with various multimedia devices. For example, I had one TV tuner that did not want to “transmit” sound to the built-in sound card, it was impossible to do without cunning tricks in the form of third-party drivers).

Driver Update:

2) It’s also a good option to use special. utilities for updating drivers.

one of the special utilities: SlimDrivers - you need to update your audio drivers.

3) You can check the driver and download the update in Windows 7, 8 itself. To do this, go to the “Control Panel” of the OS, then go to the “System and Security” section, and then open the “Device Manager” tab.

In Device Manager, open the "Sound, video, and game devices" list. Then you need to right-click on the sound card driver and select “Update drivers...” in the context menu.

Please note that in the device manager there are no exclamation marks (neither yellow, nor especially red) next to your audio drivers. The presence of these signs, as in the screenshot below, indicates conflicts and driver errors. Although, most often, with such problems there should be no sound at all!

Problem with Realtek AC'97 audio drivers.

How to increase volume in Windows 7, 8

If there are no hardware problems with the headphones, speakers and PC, the drivers are updated and in order - then 99% of the quiet sound on the computer is associated with the Windows OS settings (or with the settings of the same drivers). Let's try to adjust both, thereby increasing the volume.

2) The second step is to check the sound volume by clicking on the icon in the tray (next to the clock). If necessary, move the slider up, thereby increasing the volume to maximum!

The volume in Windows is about 90%!

3) To fine-tune the volume, go to the Windows Control Panel, then go to the “Hardware and Sound” section. In this section we will be interested in two tabs: “volume settings” and “audio device management”.

Windows 7 - hardware and sound.

4) In the “volume settings” tab, you can adjust the playback sound volume in all applications. For now, I recommend just raising all the sliders to maximum.

5) But in the “Manage sound devices” tab everything is more interesting!

Here you need to select the device through which your computer or laptop plays sound. As a rule, these are speakers or headphones (there will probably be a volume slider running next to them if you have something playing at the moment).

So, you need to go to the properties of the playback device (in my case, these are speakers).

Playback device properties.

Levels: here you need to move the sliders to maximum (levels is the volume level of the microphone and speakers);

Special: uncheck the box next to “Limited output” (you may not have this tab);

Improvement: here you need to check the box next to the “Loud Compensation” item, and uncheck the other settings, see the screenshot below (this is in Windows 7, in Windows 8 “Properties->advanced features->volume equalization” (check the box)).

Windows 7: Volume setting to maximum.

If all else fails, there is still a quiet sound...

If you have tried all the recommendations above, and the sound still does not get louder, I recommend doing this: check the driver settings (if everything is OK, then use a special program to increase the volume). By the way, special The program is also convenient to use when the sound is quiet when watching a particular movie, but in other cases there are no problems with it.

1) Checking and setting up the driver (using Realtek as an example)

It’s just that Realtek is the most popular, and it’s installed on my PC, which I’m currently working on.

In general, the Realtek icon is usually displayed in the tray, next to the clock. If you don’t have it, like me, you need to go to the Windows control panel.

Realtek HD Manager.

2) Use of special programs to increase volume

There are programs that can increase the playback volume of a particular file (and indeed the sounds of the system as a whole). I think many people have encountered the fact that they come across “crooked” video files that have very quiet sound.

Alternatively, you can open them with another player and increase the volume in it (for example, VLC allows you to increase the volume above 100%; or use Sound Booster (for example).

Sound Booster

What the program can do:

Increase volume: Sound Booster easily boosts audio volume up to 500% in programs such as web browsers, communication programs (Skype, MSN, Live and others), as well as in any video or audio player;

Easy and convenient volume control (including using hot keys);

Autorun (you can configure it so that when Windows starts, Sound Booster also starts, which means you won’t have problems with sound);

There is no sound distortion, as in many other programs of this kind (Sound Booster uses excellent filters that help preserve almost the original sound).

contemplator

This question is quite common among laptop users. The thing is that sometimes the sound on your mobile device starts to play quite quietly, or there is absolutely no sound. So how to increase the sound on a laptop? It's actually simple and the answer lies in the most basic functions of your laptop.

Increase the sound volume on a laptop

Quiet sound on your laptop can be caused by a wide range of reasons: the condition of the speakers, certain sound settings in the operating system, a problem with the drivers for the sound card, the condition of the speaker connector (if you use one on your laptop), dust or dirt in the slots for speakers.

Adjusting Audio Sliders

If you notice that your volume level has dropped dramatically and almost nothing can be heard from the speakers, then there is a high probability that your sound sliders have dropped to the very bottom. If so, then the problem is solved as follows:

  • “Open Audio Mixer”.

Multiple sliders will open in front of you. Make sure they are all set to their maximum position if any have been lowered. Then check the sound volume on your laptop again. Well, the question is “How to increase the volume on a laptop?” still on the agenda? If yes, then you can also enable the option “Loudness of Compensation” V “Playback devices”. To do this, do the following:

  • Right-click the column icon in the lower right corner of the Start taskbar.
  • Select the item from the context menu “Playback Devices”.
  • Double click on your speakers.
  • Go to the tab “Improvements.”
  • Check the box next to “Loudness Compensation”.
  • Click OK and Apply.

This setting should slightly increase the volume of the sound being played. You can also check the box next to “Equalizer” and experiment with these settings. We recommend choosing equalizer settings "Powerful".

Sound card driver settings

The problem with quiet sound on your laptop may also be due to incorrect sound card drivers. If this is the case, then you can try updating the drivers, which may lead to normalization of the sound volume. To update your sound card drivers, do the following:

  • Press the key combination Win+X and select the item from the context menu "Device Manager".
  • Next, open the tab “Sound, gaming and video devices”.
  • Find your equipment and double-click on it.
  • Go to the tab "Driver".
  • Click on the button “Update...”
  • Select “Automatically search for updated drivers”.

After updating the drivers, check the sound volume on your laptop again. If things are still the same, then you can try completely reinstalling the sound drivers. To do this, do the following:

  • Go to the “ Sound, gaming and video devices”.
  • Right-click on the desired item (for example, you may have Realtek) and select "Delete".
  • Then select "Action" in the menu bar and click on “ Update hardware configuration”.

In this simple way you can reinstall the drivers for your sound card. Check your sound again. Are there any changes? If not, then we move on.

Quiet sound source

Also, do not forget that the sound level on the audio track of the movie or music tracks you are watching may be low. You can either find a different version of the media content you need, or use the amplification option in the player you are using. Go to your player settings and look for the option "Sound Enhancement". Most media players should have it.

Adjusting the sound

The answer to the question “How to increase the sound on a laptop?” may be located right in front of you, on the surface of your device. The fact is that a laptop may have a separate volume control. Also on all laptops you can change the sound volume using a key combination Fn+*key with column icon*. Try adjusting your sound using these keys.

Checking the status of the speakers

If you still can't figure out how to increase the volume on your laptop, then there is a chance that there is something wrong with the speakers themselves in your device. Perhaps their grilles on the surface of the laptop are clogged with dust or dirt. They could also be damaged due to careless actions on the part of you or another user. In general, if you suspect that the problem with quiet sound is related to the condition of the speakers, then you will simply have to take your laptop to a service center.
