Convenient operation with a computer mouse in a browser. Windows tools to replace the keyboard or mouse Left-click on the keyboard

Today we will talk about such a simple and familiar thing as a computer mouse. If you use the mouse to its fullest extent, then work on a PC becomes more efficient and faster , and this is really useful for people, which exactly work on PC rather than having fun.

Below I will talk about the functions that I use myself and use them often when working in the browser. If you use the functions described below, then working with a computer mouse in the browser will become faster and more convenient for you.

Initially, it’s worth saying a few words about the abbreviated names of mouse buttons. It so happens that after reading various instructions that mention pressing a particular mouse button in an abbreviated version, people begin to look for it on the keyboard and ask on the Internet what kind of button it is LMB and others. Naturally, there are no such buttons on the keyboard.

LMB– Left Mouse Button.
SCM– Middle Mouse Button.
RMB- Right mouse button.

Concerning " SCM“That means the mouse wheel, since the wheel is a real mouse button.

Fast opening of links.

The mouse wheel is convenient to use not only for scrolling pages in the browser, but also for opening links. If there is a need to open several sites at once in a new tab, say from a Google search, then it will be much more convenient and faster to use the wheel.

To do this, you just need to click on the desired sites with your mouse wheel, and they will open in new tabs in your browser.

You can also use " LMB" but only in conjunction with the " key CTRL» If you hold down the « CTRL" and click on the links " LMB"then they will also open in new tabs, which is much more convenient and faster than calling the context menu " RMB».

Closing browser tabs.

If there is a need to close a tab, then there is no need to aim the mouse cursor at the cross, just click the mouse wheel anywhere on the open tab and it will close.

Enlarging and shrinking content.

For people with poor vision, the function of zooming in and out of content on a page will be useful. On some sites, it happens that the text size is very small and reading it is not very convenient and is harmful to the eyes.

You can also use the mouse wheel to zoom in and out of text on the site.
Press " CTRL” and scroll the wheel, as a result, the content on the site will decrease or increase.
Also, these actions can be performed without a mouse, using the key combination “Ctrl” + “- or +”.

Text selection.

You can also quickly select text. For example, to select a large article, you do not need to drag the mouse cursor and wait for the text to be highlighted. It can be done easier and more conveniently.

Hover your mouse cursor at the very beginning of the article and make one click " LMB"then hold down the " Shift"Then release the scrollbar until the end of the article and " LMB» Click on the end of the article, as a result the entire article will be highlighted.

Select one word and paragraph.

If you click two (2) times on the word you need, it will be highlighted.
If you click three (3) times in the paragraph area, the entire paragraph will be selected.

This is where I’ll probably end my post, if you have anything to add to this post, write in the comments, I’ll definitely see it and add it.

If your keyboard or computer mouse is broken, then, of course, you need to have it repaired or buy a new one. But Windows has built-in functions that can temporarily replace their more familiar counterparts.

I’ll briefly tell you how to replace a broken mouse or keyboard using Windows.

If your computer mouse is broken

You can use special built-in features in Windows to emulate a mouse using a keyboard. This can be useful in cases where you don't have a mouse (for example, if it suddenly breaks) or for situations where you need to move the mouse pointer with great precision (for example, when working with graphics). To do this, go to the Start menu and start controlling the cursor using the numeric keypad.

Enable keyboard cursor control with mouse

So, let's start controlling the cursor using the numeric keypad.

The regular number keys found on the top row of the keyboard cannot control the mouse pointer. To do this, you can only use the number pad keys.

The keyboard pointer control feature allows you to use the numeric keypad to control the movement of the mouse pointer. The numeric keypad must be used for both navigation and data entry.

  1. Click the button Start and select Control Panel.
  2. Make sure that Category View is selected and that the Control Panel icons are visible on the screen. If it's not, go to the left area of Control Panel and select Switch to view by category.

3. Select Special abilities to open the corresponding dialog box.

Select a tab Mouse. Enable keyboard pointer control by checking the box Keyboard control.

Click the button Setting. In the Keyboard Control Settings dialog box, select the desired options, which allow you to set important options for the behavior of the mode, for example, the speed of the mouse cursor).

Parameter "Pointer movement speed"— this is the maximum speed of cursor movement when pressing and holding a key corresponding to the direction of mouse movement.

Acceleration shows how quickly the pointer will reach its maximum moving speed.

Click the checkbox for - acceleration... After checking this box, pressing the key CTRL will accelerate, and the keys SHIFT - slow down the mouse pointer.

To control the mouse pointer from the keyboard if the NUM LOCK key is enabled, select the sub-item Included.

5. Click the button OK, then again OK , and then the button Close to close the control panel.

For Windows 7:

In Windows 7, the Accessibility Control Panel item has been replaced by the Ease of Access Center item.

  1. Go to “Control Panel/Accessibility/Change mouse settings.”
  2. In field "Control the mouse with the keyboard" check the box " Enable keyboard pointer control."
  3. To go to control settings, click "Configuring pointer control."

The settings are the same as in Windows XP.

  1. Next press "OK" and you're done.

Enable keyboard cursor control using the keyboard

You can enable keyboard control by pressing the NUM LOCK key. To start cursor control, you need to press the key combination: left Alt+left Shift+NUM LOCK. A window will appear to enable this built-in utility.

For Windows 7:

After clicking "OK, yes") in the dialog that appears, the mouse emulation mode will begin to operate.

You can at any time exit this mode, by pressing the same key combination: left Alt+left Shift+NUM LOCK.

When the mode is in effect, there is a characteristic icon depicting a mouse in the tray.

To temporarily disable the mode, press the Num Lock key, then the icon will become crossed out.

If for some reason this method does not work, do this:

1. To go to the Start menu, just press two keys: Ctrl+Esc or the Windows flag key. Then open Control Panel by pressing the key C.
To navigate through the menu, use arrows,Tab(move through items and buttons), to select a menu item - Enter.

If this is not the case, go to the left area of the control panel and select Switch to view by category by pressing the key TAB, and then ENTER. Use the arrow keys to select Special abilities and press the key Enter/ ENTER.

3. In the Accessibility Options dialog box, select the Mouse using keys CTRL+TAB. Check the box Keyboard control by pressing the key M.

4. Using the key S click the button Options . You can use the arrow buttons in the Keyboard Control Options dialog box to configure the following options:

Holding down the keys causes the mouse cursor to smoothly “slide” across the screen. The Ctrl and Shift modifiers allow you to speed up or slow down the movement of the mouse cursor, respectively, if these modifiers are enabled in the Settings mentioned above.
The Ctrl modifier is useful in cases where the mouse cursor needs to be moved a significant distance. Short presses of the number keys while holding down Ctrl will allow you to move the mouse cursor in large “steps”.

5 Click any mouse key. Rapid successive clicks allow you to make double and triple clicks. The mouse key that is clicked depends on the mode you are currently in (see below).
+ Double click any mouse button, similar to the previous one.

Good day.

Have you ever wondered why different users spend different amounts of time on the same operations in Windows? And the point here is not the speed of using the mouse - it’s just that some people use the so-called Hotkeys(replacing several mouse actions), others, on the contrary, do everything with the mouse (edit/copy, edit/paste, etc.).

Many users do not attach importance to keyboard shortcuts (note: several keys pressed simultaneously on the keyboard) , meanwhile, with their use, the speed of work can be increased significantly! In general, there are hundreds of different keyboard shortcuts in Windows, there is no point in memorizing and considering them all, but I will give the most convenient and necessary ones in this article. I recommend it for use!

Note: In the various key combinations below you will see a “+” sign - you do not need to press it. The plus in this case indicates that the keys must be pressed simultaneously! The most useful hotkeys are marked in green.

PS

Actually, that's all for me. I recommend that you remember the most useful keys, marked in green, and use them everywhere, in any program. Thanks to this, you won’t even notice how you will work faster and more efficiently!

By the way, the listed combinations work in all popular Windows: 7, 8, 10 (most of them also in XP). Thanks in advance for the additions to the article. Good luck to all!

According to statistics, one of the most frequently replaced peripheral devices on a personal computer is the mouse. In addition, most motherboard models still have PS/2 connectors, lilac for the keyboard, green for the mouse. When you unplug a device from this connector and plug it back in, unlike USB, you need to restart the operating system. Is it possible to work with a computer without a mouse, for example, to restart it or turn it off? Yes, you can.

There are several basic ways to use a personal computer without a mouse:

  • working with key combinations (keyboard shortcuts, hot keys, accelerators);
  • launching the mouse emulator from the keyboard;
  • use of a “touch panel” or “scroll ball”;
  • using a command processor (for Windows 95 – 7), or “PowerShell” (for Windows 8 – 10);
  • use of additional software (software shells, commanders, shell).

Conventionally, hot keys can be divided into the following groups:

Descriptions of combinations and results from the execution of the first two groups are determined by specific software. For example, the keyboard shortcut “Ctrl+N” in the Google Chrome browser window will create a new tab, and in the game “TES4” it will go into stealth mode and use an active spell. Each product can have its own combinations, which can be found in the program information or manuals.

In this article we will look at the global group of the operating system. First of all, it's worth mentioning modifier keys. Typically, this is the lower left corner of the keyboard, which includes “Shift”, “Ctrl”, “Win”, “Alt”. Almost all operations are performed using the indicated buttons.

The main combinations for working with the system are given in the table.

KeysAction
Ctrl+TabChanging the bookmark of one program (for example, browser)
Ctrl+ShiftSwitch language
Ctrl+Alt+DelLaunching the Windows Security window
Ctrl+Shift+EscapeLaunching Task Manager
Ctrl+Esc (or Win)Expanding the Start Menu
Ctrl+F (or Win+F)Opening the search window
Ctrl+C (or Ctrl+Insert)Copying a file/directory
Ctrl+V (or Shift+Insert)Inserting a file/directory
Ctrl+WClosing the current program tab (for example, browser)
Ctrl+Shift+NCreating a new folder
Alt+F4Closing the active program window / shutting down (as well as restarting, going into hibernation mode) the workstation
Alt+Space (space)Launching the system window of the program (close/minimize/restore)
Alt+EnterOpening properties of the selected object (file/directory)
Alt+TabSwitch to another running program/window
Win+DCollapse all windows
Win+ELaunch Windows Explorer
Win+BreakLaunching "System Properties"

Important! When using, remember that they are duplicated on the right side of the keyboard, however, some key combinations only work when using the left ones.

Launching the mouse emulator

Step 1. Use the accelerator "Alt+Shift+NumLock".

Important! This is exactly the case when you need to use modifiers on the left side of the keyboard.

Step 2. In the prompt window, use the navigation buttons (right and left arrows) to highlight the Yes button and press Enter.

On a note! When a button is selected, a frame of dots appears inside its borders. To select the desired answer, you can use the combination “Alt+D" or "Alt+H." All buttonsWindows, as well as menu items, contain an underlined letter. Using the modifier "Alt", and by clicking the letter corresponding to the button, you can do without a mouse. With proper skill, the use of modifiers increases the speed of working with a computer.

Step 3. After confirming the start of the service, a mouse icon should appear in the tray. Now you can control the pointer using the buttons on the numeric keypad.

The meanings of the buttons are given in the table.

KeyAction

Video - How to control the cursor without a mouse

Using a “touch panel” or “scroll ball”

“Touch panel” is a device for working with a cursor. The most striking representative of the use of a “touch panel” is a smartphone or tablet computer, which, in fact, is this device. By sliding your finger across the screen, you can control the cursor. This method of working without a mouse is suitable for some models of laptops and all-in-one computers.

Important! Do not confuse “touch panel” and “touch pad”. The touchpad is a manipulating device separate from the screen. “Touch panel” – built into the monitor.

Some modern keyboard models have an analogue of a mouse - a “scroll-ball”. It is a movable ball recessed into the body. By moving your palm over it, you can move the cursor across the monitor screen. A mouse click is emulated by pressing the ball, or by using special buttons that imitate mouse buttons.

Using the command handler

The command processor is a legacy of the era of the disk operating system (DOS, MS-DOS), when the personal computer OS did not have a user interface. The work took place by sequentially typing commands.

Step 1. To launch the handler, use the “Win+R” accelerator. In the application that appears, enter the command “cmd”.

Step 2. Use preset keys to control your computer.

The list of basic commands for working with the operating system is presented in the table.

TeamExecution result
cd (chdir)Change directory
clsResetting the interpreter interface
copyCopying a file/folder
delMoving a file/folder to the trash
dirView directory contents
eraseDeleting a file/folder without using the Recycle Bin
exitClosing the Command Prompt
helpCalling help
ipconfigDisplaying network adapter configuration information
logoffLogging out of the active user (end session)
mdCreating a new directory
moveMoving a file/folder to another directory
renChanging the file/folder name
shutdownDepending on the key used - reboot, shutdown Windows, or log out of the active user (end the session)
systeminfoPresentation of system data

Important! Help for each of the commands (syntax, sequence rules, keys) is available by entering the following query: “[command key]help" (for example, shutdownhelp). Pay attention to the registers of the keys. Keyphrases themselves are not case sensitive, but file/folder names are.

Sooner or later, it happens that a computer mouse breaks down, some PC users have already encountered this problem, some may still have to encounter it, and some have even now encountered this problem face to face and are reading this article.

There is no problem as such; you can buy a mouse anywhere, except in rare cases. But there are times when there is a need to do something on the computer right now, but there is no time to buy a mouse, because you are late for a business meeting, school, etc. There are a lot of examples that can be given, but that’s not what this article is about.

So what should you do if you are in this situation? Let's look at this with an example.

The first thing you need to do is go to “Start” by pressing the “Win” key on your keyboard (located between the left “Ctrl” and “Alt” buttons), then use the up and down arrows to move to “Control Panel”, and then click “Enter.”

After the “Control Panel” opens, again use the arrows to move to the “Ease of Access” item and press “Enter”.

The “Special Features” window will open, in which you need to go to the “Mouse” tab, but how can this be done without using the keyboard? My answer is very simple.

If you notice, in the area highlighted in red, the word “Stuck” is surrounded by a dotted line. By pressing the “Tab” button, this stroke will move from button to button, you need to move this stroke to the “Keyboard” tab (press “Tab” 9 times).

class="eliadunit">

Then use the left/right arrows to move to the “Mouse” tab (3 times to the right). Then press “Tab” and find yourself at the “Keyboard control” item, where you need to check the box to enable this option. To check the box, click on the plus “+”, and to uncheck it, click on the minus “-”. After installation, press “Tab” and “Enter”.

Then, in the window that opens, make the following settings using the same method as explained above. Check the box “+”, uncheck “-”, move through the items “Tab”, “Enter” - confirm.

After you have configured everything, you can already move the mouse cursor using the keyboard buttons from the “Num” category, i.e. arrows with numbers that are on the right (to the right of the usual ones).

Let's look at what functions each button performs.

Horizontal and vertical movement of the mouse cursor: 4 - left; 8 - up; 6 - right; 2 - down;

Diagonal movement: 1 - down to the left; 7 - up left; 9 - up to the right; 3 - down to the right;

Mouse buttons: 5 - replaces the left mouse button; minus (-) - when you click on it, button 5 replaces the right button; multiply (*) - when you click on it, button 5 performs the same function (replaces the left mouse button)

0 - simulates pressing an object with the left mouse button.

When holding “Ctrl” the cursor moves faster, “Shift” moves slower.
